About Us

Whistler Watch was formed in January 2006 in response to the proposed privatization of Whistler's existing wastewater treatment plant. We campaigned against and successfully halted the proposed P3 (public-private partnership) deal for the plant. To date, the plant remains in public hands and not in those of a foreign multinational with no ties to our community.

Since then, Whistler Watch has been involved with numerous campaigns focused around Run of River projects in the Sea to Sky corridor, new trade agreements like the BC-AB Trade Agreement TILMA, and organizing World Water Day events.

In addition Whistler Watch has become a watchdog organization for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympic Games and its effects on Whistler - from a social, financial and environmental aspect.

In March 2008, Whistler Watch organized a tribute to the Village Forest, Whister's last remaining urban forest that was cleared to house the Whistler Celebration Plaza. In July 2008, Whistler Watch organized a protest at the Nesters Wetland, that was destroyed to house the new Whistler Transit Facility and the "experimental" Hydrogen refueling station.

Whistler Watch has also organized progressive speakers to discuss the "darker" side of the Olympics, such as Dr. Helen Leskyj from University of Toronto, and Andrew Jennings, the author of Lords of the Rings and British investigative journalist.
