Process simplified for Olympics-related police complaints

SURREY, BC, Feb. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) will coordinate public complaints about the conduct of RCMP members and out-of-province police officers who are part of the RCMP-led Integrated Security Unit (ISU) during the Vancouver Olympics.

Complaints may be made through the Commission's 1-800-665-6878 line or website: www.complaintscommission.ca.

Complaints regarding BC municipal police officers should continue to be directed to the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner for BC (www.opcc.bc.ca).

Although the CPC officially handles complaints solely against RCMP members, the organization has a close working relationship with other provincial police oversight bodies, and its coordinated approach to complaint intake will ensure that the complaints process functions seamlessly during the Olympics.

More than 6,500 police officers from 118 Canadian police services will be present in British Columbia throughout the Olympics as part of the ISU and they will be wearing uniforms from their home police department.

CPC's Surrey, BC-based complaints line can provide translation to accommodate more than 150 languages. Citizens and non-citizens are equally entitled to make a complaint if the need arises.
